Today, in our Daily Devotional for April 12, Peace Behind Locked Doors, we look at one of the most famous encounters in the New Testament: a room full of fear, a friend who missed the meeting, and a Savior who walked through a wall just to offer peace.
Peace Behind Locked Doors – Daily Devotional for April 12
“Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!'” (John 20:19)
The Architecture of Fear
The disciples were huddled behind locked doors for fear of the authorities.
The beautiful thing about the Risen Christ is that He doesn’t wait for us to unlock the door. He doesn’t stand outside knocking until we feel “holy enough” to let Him in. He simply appears in the middle of our mess and says, “Peace be with you.” His peace is not dependent on your circumstances; it is dependent on His presence.
The Honest Doubt of Thomas
Thomas gets a bad reputation for being “Doubting Thomas,” but there is something deeply refreshing about his honesty. He wasn’t satisfied with a secondhand story; he wanted to see for himself.
Jesus didn’t shame Thomas for his questions. He didn’t tell him he was “failing the faith test.” Instead, Jesus returned just for him. He offered His scars as evidence.
If you are struggling with doubts today, know that God is not intimidated by your questions. He is big enough to handle your “I won’t believe unless…” moments.
The Blessing for Us
The text ends with a promise specifically for you. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
That is our reality. We don’t have the physical scars to touch, but we have the presence of the Spirit and the testimony of those who were there. Our faith is not a leap into the dark; it is a step into the light of a King who refuses to leave us behind locked doors.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, thank You that no door is too heavy for You to walk through. Come into the rooms of my heart that I have locked out of fear or doubt. I receive Your peace today. Help me to trust You even when I cannot see the path ahead. Thank You for meeting me exactly where I am. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Identify one “locked door” in your life today. It might be a situation you are afraid to face or a doubt you’ve been hiding. Instead of trying to find the key yourself, simply invite Jesus into that specific space. Say, “Lord, stand in the middle of this.”
