It’s a pleasure to hang out with you again for another day of reflection. As we move into March 20, let’s look at a rule we were all taught to follow as kids, and why today is the day to break it. Daily Devotional for March 20 – Talk Back to the Lies.
Talk Back to the Lies – Daily Devotional for March 20
“Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'” — Matthew 4:10 (NIV)
Breaking the Silence
Growing up, most of us heard the classic warning: “Don’t you talk back to me!” It was a lesson in respect and keeping the peace. But when it comes to the “Father of Lies,” being polite is actually a liability.
The enemy doesn’t play fair. He uses well-laid plans and deliberate deception to whisper “trash talk” into your spirit. He tells you that you’re a failure, that God is distant, or that your past defines your future. If you stay silent, you’re essentially agreeing with him. It’s time to find your voice.
The Wilderness Masterclass
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He didn’t just ignore the devil or try to out-think him with clever philosophy. He took him to school using the Word of God.
For every lie thrown His way, Jesus had a “talk back” ready: “It is written.”
He didn’t debate; He declared. He used Scripture as a defensive shield and an offensive sword. If the Son of God thought it was necessary to quote the Bible to handle spiritual friction, we definitely shouldn’t try to “wing it” on our own.
Creating Your Counter-Script
You can’t talk back effectively if you don’t know what to say. This is why making the Bible a priority is a game-changer. It’s not about being religious; it’s about having a full magazine when you’re in a spiritual firefight.
“Nobody cares about you.” – “God loves me with an everlasting love.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
“You’ve messed up too much.” – “I am a new creation in Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“The future is hopeless.” – “God has plans to prosper me and give me a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I’m done being a silent listener to the enemy’s lies. Thank You for giving me a voice and a “Script” to follow. Help me to fall in love with Your Word so that when the whispers of doubt come, I have the truth ready on the tip of my tongue. Teach me to talk back with authority and rest in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
What is the most frequent “negative thought” you’ve had this week? Look up one specific verse that addresses that topic. Literally say that verse out loud the next time that thought pops up. There is power in the spoken Word.
