The Vineyard of the Heart Daily Devotional for June 1

People often forget that they are not the masters of this world. God is the owner, and He has entrusted humanity with the stewardship of the earth. As we begin this new month, let us reflect on this truth in our June 1 devotional: The Vineyard of the Heart.

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” (Mark 12:10–11)

The Temptation of Ownership

In the parable found in Mark 12:1–12, Jesus tells of tenants who were entrusted with a vineyard. Instead of honoring the owner, they became consumed by greed and a false sense of ownership. They grew to resent the owner’s messengers and eventually even the owner’s son, thinking that by removing them, they could claim the vineyard for themselves.

We often fall into this same trap. God has entrusted us with our lives, our talents, and our time. Yet, we frequently try to “evict” Him from the center of our existence so that we can be the masters of our own domain. We treat our blessings as things we have earned, rather than gifts we have been given.

Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for the life and gifts You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for the moments I have tried to claim ownership over what belongs to You. Help me to live today not as a master of my own domain, but as a faithful and grateful steward of Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Identify one area of your life where you have been acting like a “tenant” who doesn’t want the Master around. Today, invite Him back into that space by asking: “Lord, how would You like me to manage this part of my life for You?”
