Today, in our Daily Devotional for June 2, The Image of the King, we turn our attention to a classic confrontation that reveals the true nature of our loyalties.
The Image of the King – Daily Devotional for June 2
“Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” (Mark 12:17)
The Imprint of the Creator
Jesus’ response to his opponents (Mark 12:13-17), who tried to trap him, is about much more than taxes or politics. It is about ownership and identity.
The coin bore Caesar’s image, so it belonged in his treasury. But you and I? We bear a much higher imprint. We are made in the image of God.
We often spend our lives trying to balance our loyalties, worried about how much we owe the world, our bosses, or our social expectations. We let the world’s demands dictate our values. However, Jesus reminds us that while we live within human structures, our ultimate allegiance is not to a coin or a government, but to the One whose image is stamped upon our very souls.
Living for the Owner
To “give to God what is God’s” means to offer Him the entirety of who we are. It is the realization that we are not our own; we have been bought with a price.
When we recognize that we belong to God, our worries about pleasing the world start to lose their grip. We can navigate our responsibilities in the world with integrity, knowing that our true home and our true purpose are found in the Creator.

Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for creating me in Your image. Forgive me for the times I have let the world’s demands claim the loyalty that belongs only to You. Help me to live in this world with wisdom, but keep my heart firmly anchored in Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Where are you currently feeling the most pressure to conform to the “image” of the world? Today, take a moment to pause and remind yourself: “I do not belong to the world’s expectations; I belong to God.” How does that shift change the way you approach your tasks today?
