Show love for God – Prayer for October 1. Praise the living God, everybody! The body of Christ is full of Christians who think it is their job to critique and make fun of other believers and their ministries. That’s when we need to be more like David.
Bible Verse for Today
“So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.” (2 Samuel 6:15-16)
The other day while talking to a good friend, he was recounting to me a conversation he had with his Pastor one Sunday after he had led the praise and worship that service. The Pastor began to mention some of the comments made by the congregation concerning his singing and or style of leading the worship and praise.
After listening to the comments, he told the Pastor, “I can’t be concerned about those things because when I’m up there, the Lord is my audience.” This is a statement worth holding on to.
Imagine if David was concerned about how he looked to others as he praised the Lord. He would have never been able to get free in his praise, which is what God wants. God wants us to worship in spirit and in truth, and in truth there is freedom, freedom from concern about how we appear to others in our praise and worship.
David would tell his wife in verses 20-22: “Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, how glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself! And David said unto Michal, it was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore, will I play before the Lord. And I will yet be more vile than thus and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.”
Praise and worship are not entertainment, it is a way for us to show love for God
David said “it was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before this whole house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel…” David knew who his audience was and what God had done for him. We as Christians need to feel the same way.
David had it right and so did my friend, our praise and our worship is not for the onlookers here on earth to give their opinion or be a judge of it. It is for God. Praise and worship are not entertainment, it is a way for us to show love for God.
So, worship God in spirit and in truth, worship Him for who He is and what He has done you and for His people. And don’t let anybody tell you there’s something wrong with your worship or your praise if it is in spirit and in truth. Our audience is God, not men. Show love for God! God bless you all.
Show Love for God Prayer for Today
Father God, we thank you that we can praise you in spirit and in truth. We thank you Lord that you abide in our praises. Help us Lord not to be concerned about those who would criticize us and point fingers and let us remember your goodness and mercy is new every day. In Jesus name we Pray, Amen.
