Put on the full armor of God – Prayer for October 2. Praise the Lord everybody! When you know your weapons are not carnal, but mighty through God, the next thing you need to know is how to maintain those weapons.
Bible Verse for Today
“Put on the full armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:11-12)
We see here Apostle Paul instructing us about the importance of putting on the Armor of God so that we may stand firm against the many tricks of the enemy.
He stresses the point of putting on the “whole” armor of God, not half or two-thirds of the armor, but the ‘whole” armor, because when you’re dealing with the enemy, you can’t face him half-naked, you must be fully covered.
It is not only important that we put on our armor, but also that we take care of it. We must keep it polished and clean because, like most metals, it tends to rust and become easily compromised.
The enemy is constantly probing our armor for weak spots, so we must not let our armor fall into disrepair. “How do we keep our armor polished?” you might be asking yourself. First, we must make sure we have a “whole” set of armor on. Paul goes on to tell us what that is in Ephesians 6:13-18. Once we are aware of what the “full armor of God” is, then we can get into maintenance.
God is our shield protecting us if we keep him in front of us
Each piece of armor requires a separate routine. The first thing Paul mentions is the belt of truth, and how we keep it polished is by keeping ourselves bound in the truth. The truth must be with us and in us always. We can never take it off because everything else is held together by the belt of Truth.
Another piece of armor is the Breastplate of Righteousness.
What is righteousness? It means living a holy life, according to divine law, being justified, and free from guilt or sin. To stand against the enemy, we must be living a righteous life; righteousness does not mean perfect.
We must be walking upright before the Lord, confessing our sins and repenting with Godly sorrow whenever we fall short of the mark. That is how we keep our Breastplate clean and polished.
Devotional for every day: Daily Devotional
The others are the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation, feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace, and the sword of the Spirit. They all have a specific purpose, and maintaining their polish and good condition is achieved by putting them to good use in your daily life.
Unlike worldly things, they don’t wear out with constant use; they get stronger. Put on the whole armor of God! God bless you all.
Prayer for Today
Father God, thank you for Your Word that tells us about the “full armor of God.” Help us, Lord, to not only put it on, but also keep it nice and polished so that the enemy won’t be able to find any chinks or soft spots to work on, and that we be able to stand against his every trick. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
