God knows what is best for us—prayer for October 30. Praise the Lord, everybody!
Sometimes, in our daily struggle to please God, we Christians find ourselves adding extra burdens to our backs when we try to help God do his job.
Bible Verse for Today
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11: 28-30)
Sometimes, when we are pressing hard to be the man or woman of God we believe God wants us to be, we find ourselves missing and falling short of the mark.
Are you trying to make it up to God by promising to do even more things for Him? Things like going out and handing out tracts, volunteering at the church’s soup kitchen, or adding two more short days to your week.
Things for extra credit on top of what God has already given us to do. For example, when you were in college, on top of the work God has ordained for you to do, now you’re adding your stuff, your burden, when all God wants is for us to be obedient and do the job He has called us to do.
He has called all who are burdened by sin not to add to their burdens but to get to know Him and take up His yoke because it is easy to follow, and His burden is light.
We are all ordained to carry the “light” of the world everywhere we go, even unto the ends of the earth. Therefore, when we fall short, we must not punish ourselves by adding burdens out of guilt, but we must get up, confess our sins, and continue in the race.
Devotional for every day: Daily Devotional
God chastises whom He will chastise, and He chastises those He loves. Even His chastisement is perfect, leading to the fulfillment of His will for us.
We make shipwrecks of our faith when we try to choose what we think our discipline should be. When God can see our beginning and end, only He knows what is best for us.
So, let’s focus on what God wants us to be focused on and stop trying to get extra credit. God bless you all.
God Knows What is the Best for Us – Prayer for Today
Father God, forgive us for not trusting you in all things. Help us, Lord, not to put more burdens on ourselves than you ordained for us to carry. Please always help us by remembering you know what’s best for us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
