Today, in our Daily Devotional for June 6, “The Currency of Trust,” let us reflect, amid the complexity of our responsibilities and resources, on the true extent of our trust.
The Currency of Trust – Daily Devotional for June 6
“Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.” (Mark 12:43)
More Than Just Money
In today’s Gospel (Mark 12:41-44), Jesus watches the crowd dropping coins into the temple treasury. While the wealthy gave from their surplus, a safe, calculated offering, the widow gave two small copper coins. Jesus declares that she gave more than all of them.
This story is rarely about the money itself; it is about the surrender of the heart. The widow’s offering was not a financial transaction; it was an act of profound trust.
The Problem of “Leftovers”
This passage raises an uncomfortable question: do we offer God only our leftovers? Often, we treat our time, our energy, and our attention like a budget, with God getting whatever is left after all our “important” expenses are paid. We keep a “backup plan” for our future because we fear that if we give too much of ourselves, we will be left with nothing.
This struggle extends beyond our faith into our relationships.
Consider the parent who gives a child the latest gadget but withholds their own time and emotional presence. It is easy to offer a device to quiet a child, but it is difficult to offer the patient the demanding work of formation. If we have no time or emotion to spare for those we love, we are withholding the very thing that matters most.
The Risk of Whole-Heartedness
God does not necessarily ask us to empty our bank accounts, but He does demand that we examine our priorities. Is He truly the center of our lives, or is He merely another line on our busy to-do lists? Giving “everything” means allowing God to be the primary stakeholder in our choices.
When you feel the urge to hold back out of fear for the future, remember the widow. God never remains in debt to the one who trustingly offers Him their whole life.

Prayer for Today
Lord, forgive me for the times I have offered You only the fragments of my day and the scraps of my trust. Help me to be a steward of all I have, prioritizing You above my fear of the future. Transform my heart so that I may give not out of duty, but out of total trust in Your providence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Where are you currently holding back? Whether it is in your prayer life, your work, or your family, identify one area where you are giving “leftovers” instead of your best. Today, make a deliberate choice to prioritize that area, trusting that God will sustain you.
