Prayer for Lent #day 12. What do we call a wilderness? A wilderness is an abandoned area where nothing is productive and no one can live. Jesus was led to this place.
Bible Verse for Today
“So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.” (Exodus 15:22)
A Time of Temptation
From the introduction, what did Jesus do in the wilderness, or what happened to Him? We can remember that this was the time Satan came. Jesus was hungry after fasting; there was no food or drink in the wilderness.
The wilderness is always empty. Nothing good can come out of it, but in Jesus’s case, something good came out of it: victory.
A Universal Experience
Everyone on earth will experience the wilderness—it is part of life and the journey. We should know nothing is good in the wilderness, but we must be like Jesus and bring something good out of it.
Biblical Parallels
The Israelites went into the wilderness with Moses. They stayed for three days, and there was no water or food to eat (Exodus 15:22-26). This is the same thing that happened to Jesus after He fasted.
Spiritual Challenges
If you are in the wilderness, Satan will always want to take advantage of this to make you fall.
The wilderness is a place without light; it is filled with darkness. We might not be praying for light, but we can ask God to make us the light ourselves so we will see the hidden secrets.
Taking Action
There are things you can do when you feel you are going through the wilderness. You can call on God – God has the power to bring you out of the wilderness of life. You also have God’s word to destroy any form of evil. Jesus used the word of God, and he won. You can get the victory, too.
In this period of Lent, the enemy might want to close your eyes to the light and take you through the wilderness. You have the power of God in you to resist him. Tell God to strengthen you as you walk through the wilderness and never fall.
Prayer for Today
Lord, I know this life is full of wilderness. At some point in life, we will go through one. Lord, I pray that you never leave me alone when I am going through any situation in the form of wilderness. Let your light shine on my path so I can see the way and never be lost in the wilderness. Amen.
