It is a great joy to walk the paths of faith with you every day. Today, in our Daily Devotional for April 24, The Main Course of the Soul, we encounter one of the most provocative and challenging statements Jesus ever made.
The Main Course of the Soul – Daily Devotional for April 24
“Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.'” (John 6:53)
More Than a Casual Interest
When Jesus spoke these words, many of his followers walked away. They thought he was being literal, but he was being spiritual. He was explaining that a “casual interest” in him is not enough. You can sit at a table and admire a feast, you can study the ingredients, and you can even talk about how good the food looks, but you will still starve unless you actually eat.
In the same way, we often try to live on “spiritual snacks.” We look for a quick quote of inspiration or a feel-good moment to get us through the day.
But Jesus is saying that he must become our primary source of nutrition. To “eat his flesh and drink his blood” means to fully internalize him: to let his life, his sacrifice, and his presence become the very fuel for our own existence.
Life From the Inside Out
The beauty of this radical invitation is that when you take Jesus in, he changes you from the inside out. You stop trying to “act” like a Christian, and you start “being” one because his life is literally flowing through yours. He is not a side dish to your life: he is the main course.

Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father, I admit that I often try to survive on my own energy or on spiritual “snacks.” Today, I want to truly feast on You. I take in Your grace, Your sacrifice, and Your presence. Fill me with Your life so that I don’t just exist, but truly live. Help me to depend on You as deeply as I depend on the food I eat. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Think about what you have been “feeding” your soul lately. Is it the news, social media, or your own worries? Today, try to consciously “feed” on Christ by spending five minutes in his Word or in quiet prayer, asking him to be your strength for the next hour.
