In today’s Daily Devotional for June 23, The Sacredness of Silence, we reflect on why wisdom often requires us to protect the truth rather than argue for it.
The Sacredness of Silence – Daily Devotional for June 23
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7:6)
Discerning the Space for Truth
There are moments when we feel an urgent need to share our convictions, but we must be wise about where we place that trust.
Jesus warns us that there are times when sharing our deepest truths is not only ineffective but harmful to the truth itself. If you find that a person is only looking to manipulate, ridicule, or weaponize your words against you, silence is not a weakness; it is an act of preserving holiness.
The ability to distinguish between someone sincerely seeking the truth and someone just trying to argue or humiliate is an important skill.
God’s truth is a pearl of great price. Therefore, sometimes choosing to remain silent in the face of ridicule does not mean you have lost the argument. It means you recognize the sacredness of what you are carrying and will not allow it to be trampled upon.

Prayer for Today
Lord, grant me the gift of discernment. I often speak when I should listen and cast my pearls into places where they will only be mistreated. Forgive me for forcing the truth on those who have no intention of hearing it, and for letting my pride turn holy things into subjects of argument. Help me be wise, protecting the treasures of Your grace and knowing when the most loving action is simply to remain silent. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Have you been pouring your energy into a conversation or relationship where the other person is only looking to ridicule your values? Today, practice the discipline of stepping back and choosing silence, trusting God with the truth you carry.
