We spend our lives governed by the ticking of the clock, yet we often miss the moments that truly define us. In today’s Daily Devotional for June 24, Stepping into Kairos, we explore the difference between the time that passes and the time that transforms.
Stepping into Kairos – Daily Devotional for June 24
“The neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown great mercy to her, and they shared her joy.” (Luke 1:58)
From Quantity to Quality
On this feast of the birth of John the Baptist, we are reminded of how God breaks into human history. We often live our lives in Chronos and Kairos, two different ways of understanding our existence:
- Chronos is quantitative time. It is the time we can measure with a clock or a calendar, seconds, minutes, and hours that pass in a steady, rhythmic sequence.
- Kairos is qualitative time. It is God’s time, the “now,” the decisive, opportune moment when something fundamental happens that changes the direction of your life.
The birth of John the Baptist was a Kairos moment for Elizabeth and Zechariah (Luke 1:57-66). It was not just another date on the calendar; it was a moment of grace that transcended their ordinary reality.
We all encounter these Kairos moments, but we often miss them because we are too busy tracking the Chronos. To experience God’s action in our lives, we must learn to pause. We must look past the ticking of the clock to see the “right moment” when God invites us to a new beginning, a deeper realization, or a change of heart.

Prayer for Today
Lord, thank You for the gift of this day and for the life of John the Baptist, who pointed the way to You. Forgive me for being so caught up in the pace of my daily life that I become blind to Your presence. Help me to distinguish between the time that passes and the time that You fill with meaning. Open my eyes to recognize the Kairos moments in my life, the opportunities for change, the nudges of Your Spirit, and the decisive moments where You are calling me to a new way of living. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You
Reflect on your life today: is there a “moment” you have been rushing past or ignoring that might actually be a Kairos opportunity, a time where God is trying to shift your perspective or direction?
