Seeking God’s Help to keep Depressive Thoughts away

seeking god's help

Seeking God’s help to keep depressive thoughts away. Prayer for November 26. Depression is a negative emotion that sometimes may result in a person feeling hopeless, sad, and in spiritual decline. It is also the feeling of severe despair, misery, sorrow, and gloom.

Depression can derive from stress and anxiety, but God wants us not to live by how we feel but to live aligned with His will and purpose. It is not God’s desire for His children to live a life of depression but of hope. Seeking God’s help is always essential under challenging situations.

Bible Verse for Today

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Depression can also occur because of doubt, fear of the unknown, uncertainty, and family and relationship breakdown. As a result of unpredictable situations, a person may turn to alcohol or drug abuse, thus leading to depression setting in.

But our Heavenly Father is a “God of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we too can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Elijah, the prophet, experienced fear and depression following his humiliation of Jezebel and King Ahaz. As a result of Jezebel’s anger, she called to her gods to deal with her severely if she failed to destroy Elijah within 24 hours (1 Kings 19:2). By this, Elijah felt fear and anxiety, which led to severe depression, the point that he wanted to die.

Depression can also cause physical and spiritual fatigue (1 Kings 19:5), as in the case of Elijah.

Therefore, it is essential that when experiencing depression, we seek God. Consequently, we must seek God for help to eliminate distress, self-pity, and fear. Like Elijah, we must be honest with God about how we feel. He already knows our heart, as He is omniscient.

We must never give up, regardless of how we feel or how depressed. You must rest and eat well (1 Kings 19:5-8) and be assured that God will never leave you or forsake you.

Seeking God’s Help Prayer for Today

Father, I am confident that You have not given me the spirit of fear but of power and a sound mind. So, we pray that you will protect and cover our minds so we will not fall into the trap of the satanic forces of ‘depression.’ We rebuke the spirit of depression over our lives, children, and families in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
