Dear reader, it is a pleasure to meet you on this beautiful summer day and to share the Word of God with you. In today’s Daily Devotional for June 8, The True Currency of the Soul, we look at what it means to recognize God as our real goal, which changes how we view the things we own.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)

Wealth as a Tool, Not a Goal

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus shows us a different way to live.

We are used to judging success by how much we have, but Jesus calls us to be poor in spirit. This does not mean being broke. It means knowing that we are nothing without God.

It is the realization that money and possessions are not the goal of our lives. They are just tools we can use to serve a bigger purpose. When we stop trying to store up wealth for its own sake and start using what we have to build the Kingdom of Heaven, our hearts finally find rest.

Prayer for Today

Lord, I admit that I often look to my things for safety. Please forgive me when I care more about getting more than I care about Your Kingdom. Give me the wisdom to see the blessings in my life as tools for Your work, not just for my own pride. Help me stay humble and rely on You every single day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Think of one thing or talent you have that you have been holding onto tightly; today, pray about how you can use that gift to serve God instead of just your own comfort.
