Wisdom Before the Rush - Daily Devotional for April 7

Wisdom Before the Rush – Daily Devotional for April 7

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” – James 1:5 (NIV)

Why Didn’t I Pray First?

We’ve all been there. We react to an email, make a snap purchase, or give an impulsive answer, only to wonder later why we didn’t check in with God first.

Without wisdom, we are basically flying blind. Wisdom is the ability to see the “end” of a matter before we even get started. It’s the divine filter that keeps us from a life littered with “I wish I hadn’t.”

It is incredibly wise to seek God early, before the emails start pinging and the decisions start piling up. When we seek Him first, we don’t just get information; we receive the grace (the power and ability) to actually carry out the right choice.

The Jesus Pattern

Look at how Jesus handled His schedule. In John 7 and 8, we see a striking rhythm: when everyone else went home to sleep, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives to be alone with the Father. Then, at the crack of dawn, He was back in the Temple teaching.

Jesus didn’t walk into the crowds “cold.” He spent time with the Father before facing the people. If the Son of God felt He needed that quiet connection to stay centered and wise, we certainly need it even more.

A Gift, Not a Wage

The best part? Wisdom isn’t something you have to stay up all night studying for. It is a gift from the Holy Spirit.

Walking in wisdom today doesn’t mean you have all the answers; it means you know the One who does, and you’re willing to wait for His lead.

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I don’t want to live a life of “what-ifs” and regrets. I ask for the gift of Your wisdom today before I make a single major decision. Help me follow Jesus’ pattern and seek Your face before I face the world. Give me the discernment to know what to do and the grace to actually do it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Before you dive into your “To-Do” list today, take sixty seconds of silence. Ask the Holy Spirit specifically: “What is the wise thing to do in [insert current challenge]?” Listen for that quiet nudge of peace before you move.
