The God of the Road - Moving Beyond the Empty Tomb

It is a glorious Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. The tomb is empty, the stone is gone, and the air is thick with the impossible. But as we look at Matthew 28, we see that the miracle isn’t just that the grave is empty, it’s what happens when we finally turn our backs on the hole in the ground and start walking. The God of the Road.

The God of the Road – Moving Beyond the Empty Tomb

“So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. ‘Greetings,’ he said.” – Matthew 28:8–9

The Trap of the “Perpetual Seeker”

The women at the tomb were given a choice: stay and analyze the empty cave, or move. Revelation rarely comes to those standing still. Many of us spend decades “searching”, standing at the edge of faith, weighing evidence, and never taking a step forward.

But the Resurrection isn’t a theological puzzle to be solved; it’s an event to be followed. The empty tomb is a signpost, not a destination. If you are still “just searching” after twenty years, it might be time to stop staring at the void and start walking.

Meeting Him in the “Going”

Notice the sequence: The women left quickly. They were running and obeying. It was only then, in the middle of their movement, that Jesus met them.

Jesus is already on the move while we are still checking our laces. Because Jesus is “The Way,” we encounter Him most clearly when we are on the path ourselves. You won’t find the living Christ in the static “what-ifs” of your mind; you find Him when you start to move.

The Ordinary “Hello”

When Jesus finally appears, His first word is stunningly simple. In the original text, it’s a standard, everyday greeting. This tells us the Resurrection isn’t a distant, cosmic explosion that pulls us away from reality. Instead, the Risen Christ enters our daily rush and our ordinary commute.

He doesn’t want to be a monument; He wants to be a companion.

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, thank You for the empty tomb, but thank You more that You didn’t stay there. Forgive me for the years I’ve spent shuffling my feet in doubt. Today, I’m moving. I’m stepping out in faith, even with “fear and great joy” mixed together. Meet me in my daily life, I want to walk with the Living God. Amen.

To You

Stop waiting for “perfect understanding” before you follow Him. Faith is a journey you begin while the questions are still hanging in the air. Take one practical step of obedience today, forgive someone, serve someone, or speak a truth you’ve been hiding, and listen for Him to say “Hello” in the middle of it.
