Having a pure heart – Prayer for February 17. The Bible talked about those who will see God. We all want to see God face to face, talk to Him like we talk to our friends, and walk with Him. Let’s tell God to give us the grace to see Him.
Bible Verse for Today
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
Not only in the beatitudes, but the Bible also talks about becoming holy before we can see God. Holiness is not something we can joke about as Christians. It is a requirement if we want to see God.
As a Christian, you are a vessel, and it is this vessel that God wants to use. He wants to pour His power into it; He wants to put the things that can make you see Him in it, and He can never pour them into a dirty vessel.
Matthew 9:17 says, “Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out, and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” The old wineskin, as we know, will always be dirty, and this is exactly what God can’t do: pour His power into a dirty heart. We need the purity of the heart to reach God and see Him.
A question was asked in Psalm 24:3: “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place?” People must have been asking and wondering what is needed to see God.
The Psalmist asked the question, too, and gave the answer in verse 4. “The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.” It all comes down to having a clean heart and Holiness.
We need to have a pure heart and run from anything that can corrupt us and make us unqualified to see God.
Prayer for Today
Father Lord, my utmost desire is to see you, to touch you, and to feel your presence – all these I cannot do without a pure heart. I pray that by your grace you make me pure, have mercy on me, and make me worthy of your presence, Lord. Give me a clean heart and help me to accommodate your power. Let me see you in all I do today and make the day a bright day. Amen.
