Going deeper in prayer – February 15. This is the time we must get the Holy Spirit into every part of our lives. Whenever we pray, we need to let the Holy Spirit into our emotions. Emotions should be involved in prayer, and they need the Holy Spirit.
Bible Verse for Today
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.” (James 5:16-17)
The reason Elijah could pray and something happened is that he prayed from his emotions. Getting your emotions involved in prayer will take you deeper into the prayer, and you feel every word you speak. Now, if the emotion is filled with the Holy Spirit, this is what will happen through the prayer.
Some people pray absent-mindedly; they add no emotion to their prayers, so they don’t feel anything. This kind of prayer, when you finish saying it, you know yourself that it is not deep.
This is one of the reasons the majority pray, yet it has no effect. Elijah was a human being as we are. He was a man subject to like passions even as we are. This means that Elijah has passions; he prays with passion.
Many people don’t know that it is okay to get emotional when praying. The reason is that they don’t want “the flesh” to take over whenever they are praying, but it is okay to let your emotions into your prayer – it is what drives you deep.
The emotions involved in prayer include different types. Sadness is an emotion – when you feel something too much, or it makes you sad, you will pray deeply. Joy and laughter are emotions – they can be added to prayer, and then involve the Holy Spirit.
Prayer for Today
Lord, if I have been praying shallowly and not involving my emotions in a way that the Holy Spirit can make it powerful, please forgive me. I pray that you give me the strength to pray and pray deeply and effectively. Lord, make my prayers be answered. Amen.
