Wrong Target Daily Devotional for April 27

Today, in the Daily Devotional for April 27, “The Wrong Target,” we are taking a long, honest look at the “fog of war” that often settles over our homes, our churches, and our own hearts. It is a reminder that when we spend all our energy fighting one another, we leave the door wide open for the real enemy.

The Wrong Target – Daily Devotional for April 27

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)

The Distraction of the “I”

It is tragically easy to lose our perspective. Conflicts seep into the very places that should be our sanctuaries: our families and our churches. Instead of looking outward at the greed, injustice, and evil that plague our world, we turn our gaze inward.

We become hyper-focused on our own feelings. We start by leading with phrases like “You didn’t respect me” or “I feel discriminated against.” While individual hurts are real, when they become the only thing we talk about, we have fallen into a trap.

We have turned our brothers and sisters into our opponents, and in doing so, we have abandoned the front lines of the common fight.

The Profit of Evil

There is a sobering reality to consider: while we are busy accusing each other, evil flourishes. Every moment spent in a petty internal power struggle is a moment that greed and cruelty go unchecked in the world.

Reclaiming the Common Fight

God calls us to a much higher purpose than “being right” in an argument with a family member or a fellow church member. We are called to be a united front against the darkness.

Unity does not mean we will never have disagreements, but it means we refuse to let those disagreements become the main event. We must learn to overlook minor offenses for the sake of the major mission. The world is waiting for a community that is more interested in fighting greed and evil than in fighting for its own ego.

Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have turned my weapons on the people You called me to love. Open my eyes to see the real enemy. Help me to lay down my pride and my need for personal vindication so that I can join my brothers and sisters in the fight against evil and greed. Grant us a spirit of unity that the world cannot ignore. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Is there a person in your life right now whom you have been treating as an “enemy” because of a personal slight or a feeling of disrespect? Today, make a conscious choice to put that grievance in a drawer. Reach out to them with a spirit of cooperation. Remind yourself: “We are on the same side, and there is a bigger battle to win.”
