Brothers and sisters in Christ, together with you, we are daily renewing our faith. That’s why we are so glad you read our Daily Devotional daily. We hope it gives you a guiding thought for the day. Today’s idea for the Day: Love your spouse as yourself. Today February 5, we quote from the Bible, 1 Corinthians 7.
Devotional for Today February 5
The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. (full text at 1 Corinthians 7:1-7)
The Bible’s vision of marriage in the modern world seems like hopelessly outdated furniture that needs to be thrown away. But let’s take a closer look.
Love your Spouse as Yourself
It all starts with the golden rule: Love your neighbor as yourself. (Mark 12:31)
Therefore, the Christian family model is a space for both spouses to be themselves. There is no need to play any role. There is no need for theatre.
Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional
It is enough to be yourself. It is a space where both can be unashamed of their weakness. Both spouses have agreed to accept each other’s weaknesses and to help each other grow.
No one is the boss, and decisions are made together. Sexuality is part of trusting each other.
You learn to love the way you want to be loved. You learn to love your spouse as yourself.
Avoid Unreasonable Expectations
At the same time, marriage is not deified or unrealistically idealized. Instead, it is seen as part of a passing world.
How many marriages fall apart simply because of the rosy illusions and unrealistic expectations of marriage. When people have unreasonably high expectations, they begin to exert pressure.
By taking Responsibility, We grow
Of course, spouses take responsibility for each other. Of course, they must make a conscious investment in nurturing the relationship. But all of this must stand on the foundation of God’s grace.
Simple Christian things, such as joint family prayer or open conversations, are simple but very effective tools. This keeps the marriage relationship alive.
God’s Word is the Counselor of Marriage
Therefore, when we talk about marriage, let us remember what Jesus says: The world will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Luke 21:33)
God’s Word will always remain an objective guide in all areas of life.
It is not God who has become irrelevant. But it is a man who has moved away from God. And it is not the concept of the Christian family that has become obsolete; it is a man who has turned away from the Word of God.
Prayer for Today
God, teach me to see my spouse through Your eyes. Help me to see him as a man of God. Protect us from becoming indifferent to one another. Give us Your grace to keep our marriage alive and happy. So may our marriage be a source of joy and blessing. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
