Prayer to save marriage from divorce – God helps to stop the crisis

Prayer to save marriage from divorce

As in every crisis, including marriage, the Christian should turn first to God. That is why prayer to save marriage from divorce is so important.

Many Christians see nothing wrong with divorce. But the Bible clearly states that marriage is sacred. So it is discouraging to look at divorce rates today.

According to Business Insider, the countries with the highest divorce rates included Spain and the Czech Republic, at over 60%. These numbers are discouraging because they show that fewer and fewer people value the commitment of marriage. And here, prayer to save marriage from divorce can help. God can help to stop the crisis and restore the marriage.

Bible Verses about Marriage and Divorce

Marriage matters to God! He created the first relationship when He took a rib from Adam to form Eve (Genesis 2:22-24, Matthew 19:4-6). The marriage bond is a covenant between man and woman that God uses to demonstrate the sacred relationship between God and humanity (Ephesians 5:22-33).

The promise the two people enter into is not to be taken lightly! It is not God’s plan for man and wife to separate after making a sacred promise to one another and God (1 Corinthians 7:10-16).

If you want to use prayer to help you be successful in relationships, including marriage, meditate on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and reflect on the traits listed there: patient, kind, not jealous or conceited, not rude or selfish. How many of those characteristics do you have? Which of those do you want to develop? Then, ask God to grow those traits in you. It will take time, but it will be worth it!

Related Prayers:

Like other meaningful relationships in our lives, marriage should be bathed in prayer. Here are two things I know:

  • First, God wants marriage relationships to be successful.
  • He hears our prayers when we ask to stop the crisis and restore the marriage.

Christians can use prayer to save marriage from divorce. That being said, here are a few ways to pray for your marriage:

  • Prayer for Wisdom
  • Prayer for Love
  • Prayer for Patience
  • Prayer for Tenacity

Prayer to Save Marriage from Divorce and for Wisdom

Wisdom is knowledge and understanding about approaching relationships, problems, or confusing situations in life. Marriage requires us to go against our human nature, which means putting another person’s needs before our own. Asking for wisdom in prayer to save marriage from divorce and stop crisis can open doors for God to guide your words and actions.

Dear Lord, I thank you for my spouse and our relationship. I know that you value marriage relationships because it is a covenant with you. Knowledge and understanding come from you (Proverbs 2:6). You give wisdom to those who ask. I ask you to provide me with wisdom on how I handle the challenges of marriage and stop the crisis in which we are. Give me wisdom in how I speak to my spouse and understand his needs. I commit this relationship to you! Amen.

Prayer for Love Can Restore your Marriage

Love is the key message and theme of the Bible. When Jesus died on the cross, He demonstrated the ultimate sacrifice of Love. Likewise, marriage is God’s model of love for the church: selfish and sacrificial (Ephesians 5:25-33).

To function in marriage, you must be prepared to love your spouse more than you love yourself. And even if something wrong happens, you should ask God to give you love which can restore your marriage.

Dear Lord, I promised to love my spouse when I entered into this marriage. This isn’t easy, and I need your help knowing how to love my spouse the way you do. Putting the needs of another person in front of my own is difficult. Please show me how to do that because I cannot do this in my own strength. Amen.

A unique way to pray for your spouse is by asking God to help you be the kind of spouse your husband or wife needs. God knew it wasn’t good for man to be alone, so He created Eve to be a helper for Adam (Genesis 2:18-25). So ask Him to show you how you can help your spouse in the ways they need it most.

Dear God, I love my spouse but don’t always know how to support him. Show me how to love my spouse the way they need to be loved the most. Help me to demonstrate that love in my words and actions. Thank you for answering our prayer. Amen.

Prayer for Patience

We all get frustrated, angry, and irritable. But, unfortunately, the people we love the most get the brunt of our frustration and anger when we’re not at our best.

We are in a growth process, and relationships show us how much we need God. Therefore, ask God to give you the patience to weather the frustrations of life.

Dear Lord, I confess that I can take it out on my loved ones when I get angry. They don’t deserve it, and I know it’s not demonstrating love to them. Sometimes my spouse can get me riled up, and I forget he also has needs. Please give me patience in dealing with conflict (Proverbs 14:29). I know patience is a way to demonstrate Your love (1 Corinthians 13:4). Amen.

Prayer for Tenacity to Stop the Crisis in Marriage

Think about the words in wedding vows: “For better or worse….” Commitment requires tenacity and the best kind of stubbornness. Our natural inclination when things get hard and we face a crisis is to give up and walk away. But, love does not give up easily (1 Corinthians 13:7); you can use prayer to save marriage from divorce and to stop crisis!

With God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26)! God gives us hope that all things are possible, including saving a struggling marriage.

Dear Lord, things are looking grim now, but I want to honor my vows, love my spouse, and fight for our marriage. Lord, I believe that with your help, this marriage can be saved and the crisis stopped. Help my spouse and me both to remember why we chose this. Help us to dig deep and hold on through this time. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Prayer to save marriage from divorce is a powerful tool! God hears our prayers and will answer to give us what we ask for and need. The prayers you here can be adapted to your own needs. Above all, remember that God values marriage, and He wants marriages to last.
