The Failure of Our Judgment
The parable of the weeds is uncomfortable because it demands that we accept a reality. Our human instinct is to impose order, to judge, and to purge. Throughout history, countless ideologies and leaders have tried to build their own version of the Kingdom by rooting out those they deemed “unworthy,” and these attempts have almost always ended in tragedy.
When we try to take God’s place as the judge and ruler of the world, we lose our humanity in the process.
“Let them grow together.” This is not an endorsement of evil; rather, it is a recognition of our own limitations. We simply are not capable of perfectly distinguishing the wheat from the weeds in the complex soil of the human heart.
Only God, who sees the seeds of potential even in the most broken places, can judge maturity. When we stop obsessing over “weeding” the lives of others, we stop playing God and start finding a profound, quiet peace.
Our task is not to control the growth of the world; our task is to ensure that our own wheat has the space and grace to mature.

Prayer for Today
Lord, I confess how often I want to be the judge of those around me. I try to impose my own standards of order, and I become frustrated when the world does not match my expectations. Grant me the humility to accept that I cannot see into the hearts of others as You do. Help me to lay down my desire to “weed” the lives of my neighbors. Instead, turn my focus inward. Show me how to cultivate my own heart so that Your grace may grow within me. Replace my judgmental spirit with Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
