Always be alert – Prayer for Lent #day 10. After Jesus finished fasting, He was tempted by the father of lies, Satan. There are different methods that Satan used but none of these worked because Jesus was fully aware of Satan’s deceit. We also must be careful so that we will not fall into temptation.

Bible Verse for Today

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” (Matthew 6:13)

After Jesus had fasted for forty days and forty nights, Satan came to Him and have Him tested. Jesus overcame because He could sense the deceit of Satan. At the end of everything, He used the word of God to rebuke Satan. This same method Satan used on Eve but she could not discern that it was a temptation. This is the time that Satan will want to test our faith in the Lord. We must not think of ourselves as strong.

Bible says that we should be careful. 1 Corinthians 10:12: “ Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.” Temptation does not come through something that we hate, something that we can easily reject. The enemy, Satan, knows what you are going through a particular time – he might not know what you are thinking because he is not God but he can see what you are going through. He knew Jesus just finished fasting so he took the advantage to tell Him to turn a stone to bread and eat.

Satan will use what you like or need most to tempt you. This is why you must always be alert and never give him the way.

Satan doesn’t stop tempting, the fact that he has tempted you before doesn’t mean he will leave you. When Jesus rejected the first temptation, he took Him to another place so he could test Him again. That is why the Bible told us always to be alert because Satan doesn’t rest. 1 Peter 5:8 “ Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

The only thing we can do is to get closer to God – God will give us the power we need to overcome Satan and all his tricks. James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We will not be able to resist the devil if we do not submit ourselves to God.

Always Be Alert Prayer of Today

Lord, I know I have no power of my own to resist the devil. I have no power of my own to overcome temptations. I depend on your power alone and that is why I am submitting myself to you so you can help me overcome Satan and his tricks. Lord, help me always be alert. And help me to be victorious. Amen.
