“But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:19–20)
Beyond Defense Strategies
Many of us navigate society today with a sense of apprehension. We are taught by popular culture that being a person of faith is inherently “intolerant,” so we spend our energy trying to construct a version of ourselves that won’t offend anyone. We worry about our image, our reputation, and how to soften the truth just enough to keep the peace.
Yet, this constant focus on self-defense is exactly what keeps us from being effective witnesses.
Jesus offers us an alternative: stop worrying about your image and start focusing on the Truth. When you are walking with Jesus, you do not need to cultivate a persona or a defensive strategy. You simply need to be who you are in Him. When we stop obsessing over how we appear to others, we create the necessary space for the Spirit of God to speak through us.
His voice is not one of fear or compromise; it is a voice of authority. Authentic witness is not about winning an argument or avoiding offense; it is about letting the Spirit express the reality of Christ through the simplicity of your life. When you belong to Him, you don’t have to defend the Truth; you only have to be a vessel through which He speaks it.

Prayer for Today
Lord, I confess that I have spent too much time worrying about my image and how others will perceive my faith. I have allowed the fear of offending people to muzzle my testimony. Today, I set aside my defense strategies and my desire for human approval. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and let Your voice be heard through my words and my actions. Help me be so grounded in Your Truth that I no longer fear the world’s judgment, but instead find the courage to be exactly who You created me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
