Finding Our True Direction Daily Devotional for June 14

In the rush of our daily responsibilities, it is easy to become fragmented, chasing one task after another without seeing the bigger picture. In today’s Daily Devotional for June 14, Finding Our True Direction, we reflect on what it means to be guided by the Shepherd of our souls.

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matthew 9:36)

The Cost of Living Without a Goal

We often think our struggles are about a lack of resources, talent, or strength. But Jesus saw a different problem. He saw people who were harassed and helpless because they lacked a shepherd. He saw lives filled with activity but lacking a unified direction.

We are very good at managing the “here and now.” We have to earn money, visit the store, or plan our next vacation. These are necessary parts of life, but they are just separate pieces.

When we look at them all together, we sometimes find a hollow feeling of meaninglessness.

If we eat only to live, and live only to work, we are left asking what it is all for. That is the state of a sheep without a shepherd.

True loss happens when we lose our connection with the Creator. Without that anchor, we become deserted on the inside, no matter how busy our lives look on the outside.

Prayer for Today

Lord, I admit that I often get lost in the noise of my own to-do list. Forgive me for living as if my daily tasks are the only things that matter. You are my Shepherd, and I want to follow You. Help me to connect my daily actions to the greater goal of Your Kingdom. Replace my sense of aimlessness with the peace that comes from knowing exactly who I am walking with. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

To You

Take a moment to look at your schedule for this week; pick one task you are dreading or rushing through, and ask God to help you see how that small piece of your life fits into the bigger purpose He has for you.
