The Holy Spirit Leads to the Truth Devotional

Human nature is capable of fully knowing and understanding what is in man. But, unfortunately, we cannot fully understand God. Because of our limitations. But the Holy Spirit leads to the truth.

Devotional for Today January 21

These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. (full text at 1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

God is absolutely perfect. And man, limited by matter, can know and understand the absolutely perfect God only partially, in a limited way.

But though limited, our knowledge is correct.

The Holy Spirit Expands the Limits of Knowledge

Because of these circumstances, man needs the Holy Spirit. He complements and enlarges our understanding. And he enables the human mind to know the essence of God. Thanks to the Holy Spirit, this knowledge of God goes far beyond the limits of human capacity.

When human knowledge reaches its limits, wandering begins. And without the Holy Spirit, relying on our intellect alone will inevitably lead to errors, heresies, and misconceptions about God.

The Holy Spirit Leads to the Truth

The many different religions and teachings in the world are examples of how things work without the Holy Spirit. Man creates an idea and is convinced that his fantasies are the actual knowledge of God.

It would be possible to ignore this. But the tragedy is that such false religious teachings do not lead to the Kingdom of God. Man gets lost in a field somewhere and remains lost until death. What future awaits such a person after death?

The Holy Spirit reveals Salvation

The Holy Spirit helps us to understand the essential truths of our salvation. Without them, we would have no chance.

For example, God is Lord and not man. Everything that exists is God’s property. But God has only entrusted man with some of His property and will demand an account when the time comes.

For example, that evil stands between God and man. This obstacle destroys the relationship between God and man in its essence. And the solution to this problem is the Messiah Jesus Christ.

The Bible is clear: No one enters the Kingdom of God except through Jesus. There is no other way. (John 14:6)

The Holy Spirit Leads to the Truth

No human being can understand this based on his human knowledge alone. That is why we need the Holy Spirit.

In other words, through the Holy Spirit, God Himself makes us capable of knowing supernatural mysteries.

This is why the Apostle Paul says: “We have not received the spirit of the world.” (1 Corinthians 2:12)

Prayer for Today

Almighty God, You are the Creator and Ruler of the world. You are holy. And I am the only human who has a limited nature and knowledge. Therefore, I am imperfect and sinful. Also, I am a lost creature of Your creation.

That is why I turn to You in prayer today. Send me Your Holy Spirit. Give me the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the grace of knowledge so that I may know You as You are. Grant that I may know the absolute Truth and not the interpretations of it. I ask this through Jesus our Lord. Amen.
