HUMBLE YOURSELF meaning in the Bible. Prayer for Today April 10

humble yourself

Humility is a state of being humble. The word Humility comes from the Latin word humilis, which means low. Biblically humility is the way to exaltation.

Bible verse for today

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:10)

Why does God need us to be humble? Apostle Paul writes to his spiritual son Timothy and warns him that during the last days, perilous times will come when men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, and pride. (2 Timothy 3:1-2)

Humility helps to live the truth

And indeed, we are witnessing these last days that men are more proud than humble.

Pride comes by conforming to the patterns of this world and not allowing God to transform us by renewing our minds. It comes by loving the world and the things of the world more than loving God.

Devotional for every day here: Daily Devotional

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. (1 John 2:15-16)

A perfect example of humility is exhibited by Jesus Christ, as recorded in the book of Philippians chapter 2. Even though Jesus Christ was in the form of God, didn’t consider it robbery to be equal to God.

But he made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:6-8)

Apostle Paul then requests all believers to have that mind in Christ Jesus.

Prayer for today

Lord Jesus, we thank you for your humility that though you were in the form of God, you didn’t consider it robbery to be equal with God.

Instead, you humbled yourself and appeared in the form of flesh just for our salvation. Help us to develop that mind that was in you so that we should not be thinking only of our interests but the interests of others. So that we do this, you will lift us in due time. We love and praise you, and it is in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
