Jesus, You have the Words of Eternal Life! Living with Jesus and living as a Christian means more than just hanging a cross on the wall of your room or putting a cross around your neck!
Daily Devotional for May 7
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:66-69)
You have the Words of Eternal Life
So what should you say now when Jesus asks you: “Do you also want to go?”
Are there good reasons to stay with Jesus, to live with Him? Oh yes, there is an excellent reason, and I am convinced that nowhere is that reason more clearly articulated than here in Peter’s words, “Lord, where shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed and known that you are the Holy One of God”.

“Where shall we go?” Peter answers the opposite question. Are there no other places, beliefs, or life approaches? Oh yes, there are! There are many different places and ways of orienting ourselves in life and finding our way.
Salvation is only in Jesus Christ
But there is only one God. Therefore, there is only one Savior sent by God.
Therefore, there are no other places for salvation for Peter and the other disciples! And for me, there is no other place to go either. But, with Jesus, I have found what I cannot find anywhere else: “The words of eternal life” is what Peter calls what I have found.
Jesus is the way to the Kingdom of God
Words that uplift you give you meaning, reach your heart, and convince you. Words that inspire confidence help me forgive myself and appreciate myself again. Words that bring peace have the power to move me toward goodness and to fight against selfish tendencies, indifference, and cruelty. Even in the face of death, words that give me hope again, Easter words.
But above all, they are the words of God himself.
