Giving to the poor – Prayer for April 7. You might have been reading about giving, people might have told you things about giving before but this is the time of Lent. Do you still remember to give? This is to remind you that it is necessary to give it at this period.
Bible Verse for Today
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38)
The reason why God blesses you is not only because he wants to help you settle some bills, or so you can have money to eat. Although, these are essential also, God blesses you so that you can be a blessing to His works.
There are missionaries out there that need support, they are there to make sure the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ gets to everyone on earth. You can’t go on a mission like them but you can help and support the mission by giving. When you give to them, you choose to surrender your wages to the call of God. No matter how little it is, it goes a long way and better than not giving at all. Giving to the things of God should be our custom habit and not waiting till someone tells us to do it.
Also, it is not only money you can give to the work of God, but you also have the treasure of wisdom. Why don’t you use it to create ideas on how to move the work of God forward? Deuteronomy 15:7-8 says, “If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need.”
We can’t say we want to be giving and yet close our eyes against those that are in need. If we give to the poor, we are indirectly giving to God and in this way, we are using the treasure in the right way, the way God wants us to use it. Matthew 25:40 says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Giving to the Poor Prayer for Today
Lord, it is written that the hand of the diligent shall be made rich. I ask you to teach me to be diligent in my works and never disappoint people and you. Let my work be blessed. As I give to your work and give to poor people, let your blessing come upon me. Amen.
