PRAY IN THE FACE OF DANGER, for example, virus pandemic etc. At the closing of the year 2019, everyone was happy that the New Year is coming, we started praying that it is a good year for us. Most people made a New Year resolution – there were visions for the New Year and we are all happy. Looking at what we have planned for and what we are getting now, they are two different things. The world is in disorder now, there is a virus spreading and people are afraid. All we can do is to care about others and pray in the face of danger.

How to stand and pray in the face of danger?

As Christians, we need to know how to stand and pray in the face of danger. Let us tell God to give us the strength to stand strong in the face of danger and problems no matter how overwhelming they are. Bible says in James 5:16: “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

Going by the different things that have been happening right from the beginning of the year, it calls for our concern. We need to stop allowing fear to take the best of us and then reducing ourselves to “powerless.” It is important to know that God will not leave but there is something that we must do. The Bible text says we must pray for others. This is an indication that even though the world is facing a hard time now, we should not be selfish with prayers. We must pray for ourselves and also pray for the people who are in bad condition.

Why should we pray in the face of danger?

Why should we pray for others when we also have some challenges to deal with? We are all one in Christ, what is necessary, what we should display from our heart is love. If Jesus can sacrifice Himself for us to be saved, then, we should learn how to sacrifice our time to pray for others. In this time, we need to be in one accord, to be able to strengthen and encourage ourselves in the Lord. This is a way of surviving this dangerous time.

These things happening shouldn’t be something strange to us, we should have been fully prepared for these because we have been warned in the Bible. Jesus also promised that no matter what we face, no matter the things we hear in the world, he will give us peace. You know what the Bible is telling you right now? 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and love, and of a sound mind.”

God will never leave us alone

God is assuring you that he will never leave you alone. It doesn’t matter how hard everything seems to be, the lockdowns, the spread of the virus, the news being carried by media or the pandemic, God has assured you that he will never leave you. Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

What we should focus on at this time is eternal life. Coronavirus is not the problem; it is not what we should be concerned about the most. What we should always think of is eternal life. Jesus Christ is coming soon; when he comes, where would you be? What would you be doing?

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth”

It doesn’t matter how big any problem may be, prayer is always one of the biggest solutions to it. We cannot rule out the power of prayer. There is a recorded miracle that happened through prayer. Paul and Silas were locked in the prison, all they did was to pray. They were in danger, they are facing death.

Facing the problems and challenges in the world right now may be dangerous but refusing to open the mouth to pray and put everything in control is more dangerous. So always remember to pray in the face of danger.

Also in times like this, we need to trust the Lord. Our faith should stand strong in Christ Jesus because it is in Him that our hope is built. If we walk through the fire, He will be there for us, if we walk to through the waters, He will never leave us – these will happen only if we trust God.
