Mother’s Day 2023 will be celebrated on May 14 in the USA.

Let’s make Mother’s Day a little bit different. Remember that this day is not only about gifts and cards. It’s about our best memories of our mothers who have already passed. And about attention and love to those still alive and waiting for us. Say a short prayer for mothers.

Short Prayer for Mother’s Day

Praying for Mothers

The book of Proverbs has some verses that define a mother. Proverbs 31:25-30 is perhaps the best.

Proverbs 31:25-30 (New International Version):
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Mothers are the primary caregivers to children, even grown-up children. We celebrate and honor their love, kindness, and patience that is so generously provided without questioning. Mothers can include stepmothers, mothers-in-law, and grandmothers; some will consist of their spiritual mothers.

Related Prayers:

The work of a mother is often underestimated. And the job of a mother is non-stop. The importance of mothers in families, communities, and society as a whole cannot be overlooked, and for this reason, prayers of thanks and encouragement are essential.

Some mothers have an extremely challenging role, especially those with disabled children or those in households with financial challenges or abuse. As a result, mothers don’t just appreciate the prayer they deserve and need it.

Mothers are exceptional people, and despite Mother’s Day’s commercialization with candy, cards, and overpriced flowers, there remains a remarkably Christian aspect to the day.

Exodus 20:12 speaks of honoring your mother and father, and while many may not know it, there is a blessing that comes from this. In the New Testament, this command is further emphasized in Ephesians 6:2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Mary, the mother of Christ, was perhaps the most important mother of all, and many Churches, especially in the Catholic Faith, will be celebrating.

Make Mother’s day more than special

Mother’s day is always special, but every day should be the same for mothers. Considering everything your mother has done, does, and will always do for you, one day of celebration and prayer is undoubtedly not enough.

Be encouraged to pray for your mother and other mothers every day; your prayers will make a big difference in our world.
