God's love never ends

God’s love never ends. Jesus tells the dramatic and encouraging story of the prodigal son in this Lenten daily devotional.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ (full text at Luke 15:1-32)

The Return of the Prodigal Son

Admit that the most moving scene in this story for you is the father meeting his son. The story says that the father knew him from afar. Every day, the father would look far into the horizon, hoping to see his prodigal son return finally.

The father’s unconditional love and mercy just poured out.

As we read this story, we are glad that the son has realized his mistake, admitted it, and repented. He tells his father: “Father, I have sinned against Heaven and against you…”

The father responds to these words with a hug and a kiss. The son realizes that despite his shameful lifestyle, his father has never stopped loving him and now forgives him.

God’s Love Never Ends

This part of Jesus’ story is essential to us. The fact that we are God’s children is His gift to us. The fact that God remains faithful and does not stop loving us when we live a shameful lifestyle is also His gift to us. When our hands are empty and our hearts are full of sin, God embraces, holds, and kisses us when we are dirty. This is His gift to us.

Always remember – Nothing can take God’s love away from you

And remember, nothing, absolutely nothing, can take this love of God away from you. Nothing can take this dignity away from you.

Do not lose hope

In Lent, we read this story of the prodigal son because Jesus’ words here encourage us never to give up and never to lose hope.

Unfortunately, we are not always wise. And often, one foolish step can ruin a whole life. But if that happens to you, don’t lose hope. Remember this story. Remember the loving and faithful love of a father. And no matter how bad your circumstances, dare to go back to your Heavenly Father.

Even in the darkest minutes of your life, God is waiting for you and wants to embrace you. Always remember this.

Prayer for Today

God, source of mercy and goodness, look at me, a sinful man. I confess my guilt before You. Today, I ask you to remove all the burdens that weigh on my heart. Free me from the bondage of sin. Please grant me eternal redemption. May Your grace protect me from human error. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
