Jesus Last Supper Bread and Wine

The Last Supper is not just about breaking bread and drinking wine alone. The deeper meaning is taking Christ’s blood and flesh, which cleanses us from all impurities. He told us to do this always to remember his death and how he has come to purify us and take away our sins.

The institution of the Eucharist (Communion).

Jesus took the bread and wine, gave thanks, and shared them with his disciples, telling them to “do this in remembrance of me.” The bread and wine were symbolically marked as His body and blood. The Eucharist is a remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and a celebration of the new covenant between God and humanity, signified by Jesus’ bloodshed for the forgiveness of sins.

A model of service and humility.

The Last Supper also demonstrates Jesus’ teaching of service and humility by washing his disciples’ feet. Through this humble service, Jesus showed how His followers love and serve one another, emphasizing that the true greatness of His kingdom is measured by a person’s willingness to serve.

The fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.

The Last Supper fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and established a new covenant between God and His people.

The introduction of Jesus’ sacrifice.

The Last Supper is a direct prelude to the crucifixion, setting the stage for the greatest act of love and sacrifice.
