Jesus Last Supper Bread and Wine Bible Verse for Today

“And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)

The Last Supper is not just about breaking bread and drinking wine alone. The deeper meaning is taking the blood and the flesh of Christ, which cleanses us from all impurities. He told us to do this always to remember his death and how he has come to purify us and take away our sins.

The Last Supper brings about unity in the body of Christ. We eat of the Lord’s body and drink the same cup of the Lord’s blood. It brings love to the house of the Lord, bringing those far away closer to him. Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

You are my brother because you have drunk with me of the cup of the Lord

The Last Supper is for the followers of Christ, and it is not for everybody. Those present at the Last Supper are those elected to be disciples.

Maundy Thursday Meaning

Maundy Thursday (or Holy Thursday) marks the start of the Christian three-day celebration of Easter. Easter is the most critical time and feast in the Christian calendar.

Maundy Thursday (or Holy Thursday) comes before Good Friday. This 2023 year, it fell on April 6. Today, we remember the Last Supper of Jesus with the Apostles. Then, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper or  Communion.

According to the Bible, during the Last Supper, Jesus also washed the feet of his followers. It was a sign that they should love each other, just as Jesus loved them.
