WORSHIP MEANING in Spirit and Truth

Worship is God-centered. “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker” (Psalms 95:6). Worship meaning is ascribing profound respect or reverence to God. It comes with both an attitude and an act. In Hebrew, worship meaning is seen in the word, Shachah which means – to prostrate in homage to God: to make obeisance, to bow or reverence. While the literal meaning of worship is to accord worth to something. God seeks that everybody to worship Him in spirit and truth.

Worship in Spirit and Truth Prayer

Lord, I reverence your holy name for whom you are. You’re the God that is seated in the Heaven and the earth is your footstool. You are the Beginning and the End, the First & the Last, the Alpha and Omega. Demons trembles at your presence, oh Lord. My heart rejoices at the realization of your desire to draw men unto yourself. The Lord of Host is your name. I pour out my spirit in worship unto you Lord. To you – be all the Glory, Honour and Adoration. In Jesus Christ name I worship. Amen!

A very important aspect as regarding man’s relationship with God is ‘worship’ because it surely creates an atmosphere for God to operate in our lives and for His word to flow in us personally or corporately. Worship reminds us of our position before God, His worthiness and position above us. Worship is meant for God’s glory, honour and praise. God created us for the vital priority of worshipping Him in spirit and truth.

From the study of what Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4:23-24: “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”. This tells us that God is looking for true worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and truth, therefore we much strive to become such worshippers.

Worship meaning is when we begin to make worship prayer a habit as we grow closer and closer to Him. Our God is a God of enormous power and might. Before you pray this prayer, first ask the Holy Spirit to help you hear with His ears, think with His mind and see with His eyes. God is the ultimate focus of worship, however worship also affects us because of its ability to both inform and transform us. Worship is a continuous process and worship meaning we worship in spirit and truth.

The importance of worship prayer

Worship meaning. We pray during worship. There are different kinds of prayers in Christianity. We have the prayer of Thanksgiving, Intercession, Petition, etc. However, worship prayer is very vital. It is a link that brings joy and worship together: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:11). There is joy in His presence through worship. Worship is not an obligation but a privilege, not a problem but a pleasure. Worship heartily celebrates the God whose character is caring and sharing, the God who is gracious.

  • Worship meaning implies your celebrating who God is

The prayer of worship acknowledges who God is. It is a good thing to worship God, just because He is awesome. God is a supreme being. He said to Moses that He is the ‘I AM THAT I AM’ (Exo. 3:14).

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations” (Psalms 100:1-5).

  • Worship requires that we surrender our lives to God

In worship we are constantly reminded that we are God’s children, we belong to Him. It makes us surrender the totality of our being to Him and worship in spirit and truth.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

  • It has got to do with our personal sacrifice

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

  • It makes us put our focus on Him because of who we want to become

When we come to worship, we are mostly aware of our iniquity and flaws. However God desires that we come to Him just as we are.

“But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Cor. 3:18).

  • Worship brings people together

When we come together in a group to worship, we don’t only enter into a deeper relationship with God, we also deepen our relationship with others. It builds the heart for unity and a vision for growing the church (Hebrews 10:25).
