Hear the Word of God and keep it – Prayer for May 10. The word of God is a living, powerful word; it is capable of giving life to anyone who abides by it. Let’s focus on God, hear the word of God, and keep it.
Bible Verse for Today
“Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.” (Isaiah 55:3)
When God told Moses to gather the children of Israel so he could speak to them, they were terrified by the thunder and lightning and the sound of his voice.
Because they were terrified, the word didn’t change their lives. Saul of Tarsus was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christians there when a great light came from heaven that dazzled him. He fell to the ground, listened to the word, and his life changed.
The word of God is so powerful that the Bible describes it as “a thunder.” Who can stand that and not be terrified? But God in his mercy has chosen us to hear his word so that we can live.
The truth is that not everyone who hears the voice of God experiences a changed life. It is not about the sound you hear but the message it passes.
Every time you receive the word of God into your life, you undergo a transformation, and because the word is a living word, it imparts life to you. That’s why Jesus made it clear in Matthew 4:4 that “man shall not live by bread alone but by the word of God.”
