LETTING GO OF GUILT. A Prayer for Forgiving Yourself

prayer for forgiving yourself

These days people are finding it hard to forgive themselves for past mistakes. They long to turn back time and go back to who they used to be and knock some sense into themselves. If you are struggling with this, please trust God. He has forgiven you all your sins. So you need to forgive yourself and to make up your mind not to sin in the future. Remember that not excusing themselves keeps you from living a life full of joy that God intended for you. You need to learn letting go of guilt. Say prayer for forgiving yourself.

The Bible says, If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

A simple prayer for forgiving yourself can work wonders. However, this prayer must be uttered with all sincerity! You do not have to empty your heart from all your shame before you come to God. You should come to God exactly as you are with that shame and allow Him to take it! Don’t feel like you have to be perfect. You just need to learn letting go of guilt.  Please read the Bible verse below. May it encourage you that there is no such thing as perfect people!

“Indeed there is no one on Earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins” (Ecclesiastes 7:20.

Now that we understand that everyone makes mistakes I would like to take a moment to encourage you to say a prayer of forgiving yourself and letting go of guilt. Will you please join me?

A Prayer for Forgiving Yourself

Dear Lord,
I come before you humbly today asking you to help me forgive myself. I have looked back on my past way too long. And I am tired of feeling like I could have done better every single day. To be honest, when I think this way a part of me knows that it is right. I really could have made better choices, but I cannot go back and change it. The only thing I am in control of now is my future. I cannot live life backward. Lord, right now I release all my anxiety into your hands. It is not your will that I hate myself for all the things that I have done. Lord, when I hate myself, I hate the very thing that you have created. I must know that is a sin.

Not only do I pray for myself but I also pray for other people that are struggling with forgiving themselves. Unforgiveness can make you feel so insecure. Help them accept themselves for their shortcomings because your Holy Word states: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Lord, as you cleanse and purify our hearts from unforgiveness help us understand that “all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). God, imperfection is a considerable part of our earthly nature. Help us accept our flaws and know that you love us in spite of them. In Jesus name, Amen.
