Serve the Lord with gladness – Prayer for August 18. Praise the Lord! This is a day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! Every day we live here, we are surrounded by opportunities to serve the Lord. All we must do is open our eyes.
Bible Verse for Today
“When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:12-14)
Many Christians appear to be in a rut these days when we’ve been saved and Holy Spirit filled, and we’re just sitting back and enjoying our Christian walk.
It seems God hasn’t asked us to do anything since we first got saved except not to forget the assembling of ourselves together. We’re just sitting back, waiting for our following assignments. We’re waiting on God to “give me a ministry” to open that door that no man can close; we plead, “Stir up the gifts, Lord!” and the Lord is looking down from heaven, saying, “WHY?”
“Didn’t I see you walk past a starving beggar yesterday without glancing at him? Did not sister Sherry remark to you that she lost three volunteers last week at the food bank, and all you said was, “I’ll keep you in prayer,” As you kept walking to “your” car.
Everybody is waiting for an Esther moment, where they are suddenly thrust into harm’s way and must make a decision that could lead to them being martyred or becoming the next Christian Idol.

We’ll be on all the Christian talk shows and invited to speak at conferences and revivals nationwide. While waiting for our big moment to serve, God says, “You want to minister? Then minister!” Help unload trucks down at the food bank and give a helping hand at the soup kitchen. Maybe hand out some tracts in the area of your church. How about visiting the sick and the shut-in?
Who knows, maybe the reason God called you out of the darkness in the first place was for such a time as this. “This” is any opportunity that comes your way to show the love of Christ. Why wait for an Esther moment to serve God when so many “Martha” moments pass you by? God bless you all.
Serve the Lord with Gladness Prayer for Today
Father God, please help us see all those “ministry moments” you put before us. Not only see them but act on them also. Lord, help us remember why we’re saved, that our big “moment” comes every day, and that we must seize it before it seizes us. I promise to serve the Lord with gladness. I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
