“My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
for the LORD will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.”
(Proverbs 3:21-26)
In the natural world, Christians are just like anyone else when it comes to wanting to leave our homes appropriately dressed, making sure we have the right accessories to pull it all together. God is challenging us today to be just as attentive to our spiritual accessories as our natural ones. Sound judgment and discernment are two spiritual accessories that we don’t think about much, but without them, we can easily be led astray by the enemy.
The more sensitive you are to the Holy Spirit, the stronger your powers of discernment of spirits. The ability to know who you can trust and who you can’t leads to making sound choices in life. God has given all believers these abilities, so as we navigate the natural world, we can avoid the pitfalls that those without the spirit of God find themselves so easily falling into.

Father God, thank you for the spiritual garments of sound judgment and discernment. Help us remember to wear them in faith and use them to help us safely navigate this dark and evil world, avoiding every trap of the enemy along the way so that we can enjoy your peace at the end of the day. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
