bad company corrupts good character

Bad company corrupts good character – Prayer for August 25. Praise the Lord everybody. One of the biggest threats to Christians’ testimony is bad company! And I’m not talking about a rock band from the 80s or something.

Bible Verse for Today

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” (1 Corinthians 15:33)

There is no statement truer than the one above given by Apostle Paul to the Corinthian church. Almost every believer has a person, place, or thing that poses a danger to their relationship with Christ.

Just as members of Alcoholics Anonymous are told to stay away from the people, places, and things that could cause them to relapse, Christians, especially new believers, need to also stay away from those people, places, and things that could lead them back into the world and their sinful natures.

It can be very subtle at first, maybe you find yourself listening more and more and more to your favorite secular music, and less and less to Gospel and praise and worship like you did when you first got saved. Or maybe you stop watching TBN and the Word network or Family T.V. and begin watching more adult-themed television.

As a result of this, your prayer life begins to suffer along with your Bible study, and before long you begin to stop fellowship with other believers. There is a saying, “don’t get too close to the world, because the world will pull you back in before you can pull someone out.”

We as Christians must always stay plugged into our power sources,

  • God’s word is one,
  • the Holy Spirit is another,
  • fellowship with the other believers and
  • prayer is another.

The Bible tells us “what fellowship does darkness have with light?” a question we should always keep in mind when we find ourselves leaning too far into the dark side. We can’t keep our lights shining bright if we are recharging our batteries with darkness instead of light.

The world likes the dark and sees the light as a threat to its lifestyle, so seeks to find ways to put out the light. So be careful who you spend your quality time with, so your light will not slowly fade to black. God bless you all.

Bad Company Corrupts Good Character Prayer for Today

Father God, we want to thank you for your word that tells us to be careful who we spend our time with. I know that bad company corrupts good character, so I do my best to stay away. Help us Lord to stay plugged into your word and your people. Let us not walk together with darkness, nor be tempted by it. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
