Serve the body of Christ with love and joy. Prayer for November 2. Praise the Lord, everybody! Jesus tells us in His word that there is one sure way to recognize His disciples, and that is by their love for one another.
Bible Verse for Today
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. (John 13:34-35)
Have you ever experienced that wonderful feeling on a Sunday morning, or any other morning, when you go to church; you enter expecting to experience Christ’s love and comfort from other believers; you are a member of the body of Christ, glory to the Lord!
However, in the last 10-20 years, a disturbing trend has emerged in the body of Christ: cancer. This is because some of us have forgotten what the word “member” means to the body, especially the Body of Christ.
You see it in so many churches these days and hear so many sad stories. “I don’t go to church anymore because I didn’t feel welcome or needed.” They claimed that instead of the “right hand of fellowship,” they got background checks and the third degree. And if the “Cliques did not accept you,” then you were made to feel very uncomfortable. You see, most churches today are looking for club members and not body members.
We must remember that it is not us but God who adds to the Church as He sees fit, and EVERY person He sends has a role to play in the body. How can we function efficiently if we cut off our arms and legs because we don’t like them or they don’t “fit in.”?
So, let us welcome in all our body “members” with love and thankfulness to God so that everybody can enjoy the joy of being in Christ every time we come together. God bless you all.
Prayer for Today
Father God, we thank you, Lord, for our role in the Body of Christ. Lord, help us be more welcoming to the newcomers and the other body parts. Let’s all serve Jesus Christ with joy and love! Lord, let the love we have for each other be made evident to all to take notice. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
